Description

This course teaches students how to draft sewing patterns from scratch and make effective alterations to existing patterns. Students will begin by creating custom slopers, then learn how to modify those slopers to develop patterns for a wide range of garments. The same techniques can be applied to adjusting commercial patterns, giving students practical tools for tailoring fit and design. Students should be comfortable working with flat patterns, calculating with fractions, and drawing precise measurements with rulers. A combination fashion ruler is available from the instructor for $20, or students may consult the materials list at www.communityarts.org/materials if they prefer to purchase supplies on their own.
