Listening to Art Song - BEG

Students will study art song, known in German as Lied and in French as melodie, exploring how composers combine poetry and music to create expressive storytelling through song. The course will introduce works by Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Fauré, Strauss, Hahn, Poulenc, and others. Students learn key elements of interpretation, text analysis, and performance practice for this genre. By the end of the course, students will be able to approach art song with greater confidence and a deeper understanding of its musical and literary foundations.
