Meet James Howe

James Pomeroy Howe was an Associated Press correspondent whose career took him around the world before he settled in Walnut Creek. He reported on major events including the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and World War I, and interviewed influential leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, King George V, and Joseph Stalin.

After retiring to Walnut Creek in 1935, Howe remodeled the homestead into the estate that inspired today's Howe Homestead Park. In retirement, he devoted himself to winemaking, pigeon breeding, nut growing, gourmet cooking, and collector, among other items.
