Explore Howe Homestead

Just minutes from downtown Walnut Creek, Howe Homestead Park is the primary western gateway to Shell Ridge Open Space.. Cross the historic stone bridge from the parking lot and you'll step into rolling grasslands that feel much as they did in the 1930s.

Start your hike on the Kovar Trail, which leads toward the crest of Mount Diablo—about 10 miles away. This is one of the most convenient access points for exploring the western side of Shell Ridge Open Space.

The park also offers a small first-come, first-served picnic area and public restrooms near the center of the park.
