Why It’s Called Shell Ridge?
Shell Ridge is Walnut Creek's largest open space, covering 1,420 acres of parallel ridges and valleys stretching from near downtown toward Mount Diablo. The area gets its name from the marine fossils left behind when ancient ocean waters receded. Today, its 31 miles of trails offer hiking, biking, and horseback riding across ridgelines, creek corridors, and rolling hills.
🐕 Dogs
Rangers recommend dogs remain leashed at all times. If they are off leash, dogs must be under positive sight and voice command.(please keep in mind there is abundant wildlife in the area, including coyotes, as well as cattle)
