A small open space with a distinctive landscape
Sugarloaf Open Space protects 177 acres in southern Walnut Creek and is home to one of the city’s last remaining black walnut orchards. Its short trail network climbs through open grasslands and wooded areas to a ridgeline overlooking Mount Diablo, Shell Ridge, and Las Trampas Ridge.
More than a place to hike
Beyond its three miles of trails, Sugarloaf offers picnic areas, a native plant garden, an amphitheater, and reservable spaces for group gatherings and overnight camping. Its compact size makes it an approachable destination for a short hike, picnic, or family outing.
