Description

Starting from the Marshall Drive entrance, this scenic loop winds through the rolling hills of Shell Ridge Open Space, passing the seasonal Twin Ponds before climbing to panoramic ridgelines overlooking Walnut Creek, Mount Diablo, and the surrounding Diablo Foothills. Along the way you'll hike through open grasslands, oak woodlands, and peaceful backcountry landscapes that showcase some of the preserve's most diverse scenery.

This 6.9-mile loop features 1,181 feet of elevation gain, making it one of Shell Ridge's more challenging hikes. The route combines seasonal ponds, sweeping viewpoints, and quiet trails into a rewarding adventure for hikers looking to explore deeper into the preserve.
