Borges Ranch, Sugarloaf Shell Ridge, Corral Spring, and Costanoan Loop

Starting from historic Borges Ranch, this scenic loop follows the Sugarloaf–Shell Ridge, Corral Spring, and Costanoan trails through some of the most diverse landscapes in Shell Ridge Open Space. Along the way you'll hike across rolling grasslands, oak woodlands, and scenic ridgelines, with sweeping views of Mount Diablo, the Diablo Foothills, and the surrounding valleys.

This 5.8-mile loop features 918 feet of elevation gain, making it a rewarding moderate hike with steady climbs and expansive viewpoints. Beginning and ending at Borges Ranch, the route combines the ranch's historic setting with peaceful backcountry trails, seasonal wildflowers, and panoramic vistas that showcase some of Shell Ridge's most scenic terrain.
