Shell Ridge via Livorna Road

Starting from the Livorna Road trailhead, this scenic loop explores the rolling hills of Shell Ridge Open Space, climbing through open grasslands, oak woodlands, and panoramic ridgelines with sweeping views of Mount Diablo, Walnut Creek, and the surrounding Diablo Foothills.

This 8.4-mile loop features 1,555 feet of elevation gain, making it one of the longest and most challenging hikes in Shell Ridge. The route rewards hikers with expansive vistas, peaceful backcountry landscapes, and a chance to experience many of the preserve's signature trails in a single adventure.
