Starting from the Marshall Drive entrance, this challenging loop explores the heart of Shell Ridge Open Space, following scenic trails through Pine Canyon, rolling grasslands, oak woodlands, and expansive ridgelines. Along the way you'll enjoy sweeping views of Mount Diablo, Walnut Creek, and the surrounding Diablo Foothills while experiencing some of the preserve's most remote landscapes.
This 11.4-mile loop features 1,463 feet of elevation gain, making it one of the longest hikes in Shell Ridge. The route combines peaceful backcountry trails, panoramic viewpoints, and diverse terrain into an all-day adventure for hikers looking to experience the preserve beyond its shorter loops.
