Foothills, Stage Road, Little Yosemite Valley, and Borges Ranch Loop

Starting from historic Borges Ranch, this scenic loop follows Foothills Trail, Stage Road, and Little Yosemite Valley before returning through the rolling hills of Shell Ridge Open Space. Along the way you'll hike through oak woodlands, open grasslands, and scenic ridgelines, with panoramic views of Mount Diablo and occasional glimpses of the Castle Rock formations.

This 6.6-mile loop features 1,246 feet of elevation gain, making it one of the most challenging hikes in Shell Ridge. The route rewards hikers with diverse landscapes, abundant wildlife, and some of the park's most spectacular viewpoints, creating an unforgettable backcountry experience.
